Time Traveler Tours Award-Winning StoryApp
Uncovers the Secrets of Revolutionary Paris
In French and English
Travelers, both actual and armchair, can now explore Paris with their iPhone or iPod Touch, guided by the murderers, gravediggers and celebrity photographers of Time Traveler Tours.
Time Traveler Tours' first published app tour, entitled Beware Madame la Guillotine, A Revolutionary Tour of Paris, is fully bilingual and available worldwide. Its French title? Gare à la guillotine ! Une visite revolutionaire de Paris. Listen in one language while reading in another, or just let the story carry you away -- this app breaks new ground for the youth and student educational travel industry: It is the only app to combine the traditional power of narrative storytelling with the latest in mobile technology to bring history to life through story and games.
A School Library Journal Top 10 2011 App and a Teachers With Apps Top 10 2011 Tried & True Classroom App, Beware Mme la Guillotine is now a Top 10 Finalist in the World Youth & Student Travel Conference 2012 App Yap Contest.
Beware Mme la Guillotine takes you on a personal journey into the sights and sounds of Paris at the time of the French Revolution with murderess Charlotte Corday, in the days leading up to her demise at the guillotine. As she guides you through her Paris -- from the Palais Royal on the Right Bank to the scene of the crime on the Left Bank to the Conciergerie Prison on the Ile de la Cité -- she recounts her motivation for plunging a knife into the chest of radical propagandist Jean-Paul Marat, revealing the history of the Revolution in an unforgettable way.
Beware Mme la Guillotine launched in July 2011 in English for iPhone and iPod Touch with iPad compatibility. It remained in the US App Store's New & Noteworthy for nearly two weeks, and in December 2011, earned two Top 10 distinctions in the school and library communities. The French-English bilingual version launched in Jan 2012 and is now a Top 10 2012 App in the category of Educational Travel.

Sarah Towle, founder of Time Traveler Tours, is a US expatriate, lifelong learner, teacher and traveler who moved to Paris in 2004. Frustrated by the lack of exciting travel and adventure opportunities for older kids and youth, she began writing story-based historical itineraries for her then-preteen daughter. The lightbulb moment came when she held an iPhone for the first time. Since then, she has been writing, researching and building her one-person business from the ground up. She aims to use the platform as a leg up for other promising young adult authors.
Now in development are tours to Boston, New Orleans, San Francisco, Florence, Rome, and Amsterdam, as well as three more tours of Paris:
- Day of the Dead, in which fictional gravedigger Jean-Philippe Toulier takes you to the Catacombs and the Montparnasse cemetery during the time of Emperor Napoleon;
- Long Live the King's Garden, a visit to the gardens of the ancien régime’s Chateau de Versailles enlivened by the adventures of France's true-life Indiana Jones; and
- In Focus, the story of Nadar, the world's first portrait photographer, and the late 19th century boom that made Paris the envy of the world.
Time Traveler Tours interactive StoryApp iTineraries are ideal for the ever-increasing numbers of young people criss-crossing the globe on their own, with friends, in school groups or with their families. They also offer an engaging way to complement related high school and home school curricula. Indeed, Beware Mme la Guillotine is already a hit with teachers and librarians, whether or not they are planning a trip to Paris. Adults love them too.
Extensively researched and great fun, these app tours are the essential travel companion for anyone with a smartphone, a love of discovery, and sturdy walking shoes.
